Compound Sentence

A compound sentence is a complete sentence. It refers to a sentence made up of two independent clauses connected to one another with a coordinating conjunction. The coordinating conjunctions are easy to remember we can make acronym "FAN BOYS":
  • For
  • And
  • Nor
  • But
  • Or
  • Yet
  • So
Examples of compound sentences include the following:

  • Ilham waited for the bus, but the bus was late.
  • I looked for Musa and Ani at the airport, but they arrived before noon 
  • Iman and Samsul arrived at the bus post office before 7 p.m, and they left the post office before I arrived.
  • Jefry left the office before I arrived, so I did not see them at the office.

  • Compound sentences usually use coordinating conjunctions. There are two clauses in the compound sentence that uses coordinating conjunctions. In this sentence, we can use more than one of conjunctions. The conjunctions can indicates relationship of clauses. The conjunctions relates two independent clauses in the sentence. The coordinating conjunctions only add one independent clause to another, without indicate how the two parts of a sentence are logically related
