Conjunctions

A conjunction is a word that joins two or more words, phrases, or clauses. 
onjunction adalah salah satu bentuk part of speech (unsur kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris) yang berupa kata atau frase yang berfungsi untuk menghubungkan antara dua kata, frasa atau kalimat.

Ada 2 jenis conjunctions (kata penghubung/ konjungsi), yaitu:

1.    Coordinating Conjunctions

digunakan untuk menggabungkan 2 kalimat yang secara grammar berkedudukan sama dan selalu berada diantara kata atau klausa yang dihubungkannya. Seperti: and, but, or, nor, for, yet, so.

2.    Subordinating Conjunctions

digunakan untuk menggabungkan anak kalimat dengan induk kalimatnya dan biasanya berada di awal anak kalimat. Seperti: after, although, as because, before, how, if, once, since, than, that, though, till, until, when, where, whether, while.

 

Bentuk-bentuk Conjunctions

 

Single Form (Bentuk tunggal) seperti: and, but, because, although.

 

Compound (Majemuk) seperti: provided that, as long as, in order that.

 

Correlative (Menghubungkan) seperti: so...that

 

Contoh  Kalimat:

 

He went to bed because he was sleepy.

As long as you’re not busy, could you help me with this work?

Susan raised her hand and snapped her fingers.

These shoes are old but comfortable.

Steve, Joe, and Alice are coming to dinner.

The colors in that fabric are red, gold, black, and yellow.
